The party encountered the bandits and after some quick scouting, attacked. Making quick work of the rogue Scythe, they convinced those left standing to surrender. There were no fatalities and the party gathered information from the group.
The ex-Scythe tried to convince the party that the item should not be returned to the king for the king was trying to assemble something horrific to gain power. He also made several offhand comments about the Scythe and their questionable ethics. They argued for quite sometime before deciding to sleep and continue in the morning.
During the night, Ander and Sterion had a secret conversation while Thae and Tess slept. They went and spoke with the ex-Scythe and told him they believed him and wanted to release him. He refused to say who he worked for, preferring to die than endanger his leader. This seemed to strengthen Ander and Sterion’s belief that he was being truthful. The agreed to let him go and meet again in a week. During the escape, Tess and Thae woke up, seeing Sterion wrestling with one of the captives and all but 2 captives missing.
Sterion and Ander tried to deceive the party first but eventually came clean. Tess and Thae did not like being deceived but could see that Ander had a good point.
The party is not sure who to trust. Their choices are thieves or a government that forced half of them into service.
For the time being, they decided to travel to Adian Harbor until it was time to meet with the rebels. They dispatched a drake that hunted them through the wilderness and arrived in the harbor, settling at a nearby inn.
